Do it right, solve it well.

Founder of Synthesis Legal, Stephanie Streat is the perfect example of what happens when grit and grace collide. Since commencing her legal practice, there has been a fire in her belly to do it right and solve it well.

Synthesis was created by the determination to bring her framework for success to an industry that is in many ways unilateral and archaic. Stephanie has experienced the most rewarding successes when she listens to learn the client’s objective, applies the law and her specialized knowledge, to deliver synthesized, creative solutions.

Stephanie’s creative thinking skills and unspoken approachability gives clients a sense of ease when faced with a legal challenge. She has created a firm built upon a long-standing reputation of a high-level of competency and respect — clients know they are in the right place when needing both immediate, trusted legal representation and an inclusive member of the team for the long term.

Solid, Optimal Solutions

Relationships are critical. With all parties and all aspects of a dispute. Where strained relationships can be mended, the project and the parties benefit- enhanced trust, a quicker flow of money, and future work together are often the result. Stephanie doesn’t shy away from picking up the phone to discuss and get to the root of a problem. Wherever possible, she loves getting involved in a project early, when things are starting to go off track, and working with others to build solutions to keep it moving forward. The construction community is too small to make too many enemies. Stephanie takes pride in having respectable relationships with members of the construction industry, law firms throughout BC & AB, and financing agents so she can provide solid, optimal solutions. Of course, where necessary, Stephanie enjoys litigating challenging legal issues in Court.

Approachable & Accessible

Stephanie has enjoyed assisting clients with all manner of construction matters. Stephanie provides clients with strategic advice and assistance in contract negotiation and drafting, risk avoidance and mitigation, crisis management, and resolution of disputes.

Stephanie aims to provide ‘big-law’ quality advice, in a more approachable and accessible way. Being outside of the downtown core, Stephanie is located conveniently close to many of her clients’ business operations, projects and homes, and she has been known to personally deliver settlement cheques, take affidavits, or obtain last minute builders’ lien claim signatures.

The Nitty-Gritty

Dispute resolution is a large component of Stephanie’s practice, and she regularly assists clients to come up with solutions that keep projects on track, moving forward and money flowing. Where a negotiated resolution is not possible, Stephanie will use mediation, arbitration or the Court processes to advance her clients’ interests.

Early in her career, Stephanie was fortunate to work closely with some of the top lawyers in construction in both Edmonton and Vancouver, on many high-profile, complex projects. Mentoring from these experts in the field contributed to Stephanie’s ability to quickly and creatively devise practical legal solutions to secure positive outcomes for her clients.

Acting for project owners, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, municipalities and insurers has given Stephanie the ability to look at an issue from multiple sides so that no angle is overlooked, and the insight to propose practical solutions that resolve (and prevent) conflicts.
